Computers in the Workplace

Computers have a drastic role on the healthcare industry. Things like medical research utilizing AI, automated robotic surgeries, diagnosis imaging have completely changed the effectiveness of modern medicine. Moreso, electronic health records have helped to quickly research patient files and assist in record upkeep.

Healthcare professionals use computers to access patient histories, monitor vitals, manage prescriptions, and communicate across departments or with external specialists. Administrative staff rely on information systems for scheduling, billing, inventory control, and insurance claims processing. With the rise of telehealth, computers also serve as the primary means for delivering care remotely, expanding access to underserved populations.

Computer literacy is critical for healthcare workers. In fact, part of my wife's hiring process involved her watching tons of videos on utilizing their companies patient record administration software. Technology is only as good as we properly use it, so there is a distinct reason to understand the technology you are using. For diagnostic machines and robotic surgeries, understanding the uses are more than necessary. A lack of computer literacy can result in inefficiencies, errors in patient records, or compromised patient safety.

Looking ahead, the next decade will bring significant changes driven by advancements in computer hardware, operating systems, and especially artificial intelligence. More powerful processors and increased cloud computing capacity will enable real-time analysis of large patient datasets, leading to more personalized treatment plans. AI will continue to evolve in diagnostics, such as interpreting radiology images and predicting patient deterioration. I truly believe AI is going to boost the healthcare field to places we couldn't imagine. Maybe we will finally find cures to the world's most deadliest diseases after all.
